Pueblo Special Election

In a special election, Pueblo voters approved a controversial smoking ban. They also decided to keep three of the four council members who were facing a recall.

This means, smoking will be banned in all public buildings, including bars, restaurants, bowling alleys and bingo halls.

Also on the ballot was the recall of four city councilmen who voted for the smoking ordinance back in December. Shortly after that council vote, opponents of the ban quickly organized to defeat it. They collected enough signatures to get the ban suspended. They also gathered enough petitions to put Mike Occhiato, Dr. Bill Sova, Ted Lopez, Jr. and Bob Schilling up for the recall election. But only Lopez was voted out on Tuesday. He will be replaced by Ray Aguilera.
