An e-mail circulating Colorado Springs has some people wondering how to respond. It claims there was a tent fire in Iraq, and 200 soldiers lost everything. It then goes on to ask for help.
Fort Carson officials say part of the e-mail's claim is true, there was a fire, and the 200 soldiers did lose nearly everything. But, they add, the fire was weeks ago, and new equipment was issued only days later. The Army also helped replace personal items lost.
Leutenant Colonel Tom Budzyna of Fort Carson says, if you want to help the military, e-mail's are not the best way. That, he says, is because most of it won't make it to the troops.
So, the best way to help is to call your local base or post and ask what you can do. You can also find organizations through the Army.
