People angry with the Mormon church for promoting a ban on gay marriage in California are promoting a boycott of Utah's growing tourism industry and the Sundance Film Festival.
The church, headquartered in Salt Lake City, encouraged its members to work to pass California's Proposition 8 by volunteering their time and giving money for the campaign.
Thousands of Mormons worked as grassroots volunteers and gave tens of millions of dollars to the campaign.
A tourism boycott in Utah could prove costly for the state.
It brings in $6 billion a year.

Linda, while I STRONGLY DISAGREE with the passage of Prop. 8 and any of those who supported it, it would (unfortunately) take an act of Congress to get Sundance moved to Colorado. While the business would be very beneficial to our state, the presence of the cult groups Focus on the Family and New Life would likely prevent that from happening in the name of the gay/lesbian/equality movement. For those of us who feel that EVERYONE should have the SAME rights as EVERYONE else, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, etc., it's these biggoted, self-righteous, bible thumping groups that prevent that from happening.

Since the Mormon Church in Utah supported the ban on Gay Marriage and interfered with California life, the Sundance Film Festival should be held in Colorado which is suffering from severe economic downturn. Colorado has skiing and thousands of housing units available. Send the film dollars to Colorado - why export film dollars to a hostile "country."

It is sad that the Mormons, people who know all too well the sting of persecution should choose to attack the lest powerful minority. Gay people are fewer in number then almost all and outcast from so many and for what? Because Gay couples dare to want the same basic right we all know, to declare their love for another and enter into a culturally recognized and legally binding union know as marriage. I say shame on the Mormon Church. And any other who have followed them in these bigoted and hateful ways. I call upon the Sundance Film Festival to relocate its self this year to another state or be seen as being in complicity with these un-American and repugnant ideas. If not, face our boycott. I call upon all American to reject this culture of hate and to isolate the Mormon Church until it give up it bigoted and extremist idea. Boycott Utah. Any company, person, star or celebrity who attends events like Sundance inside of the state of Utah should be included in this the boycott.
