You can expect more cloud cover and cooler temperatures today. By later this afternoon, rain showers will develop across the Pikes Peak Region and slowly drift southward. These rain showers will quickly change to snow at higher elevations, and accumulations will be likely. At lower elevations, snow accumulation does not appear to be a big deal. The reward for information leading to the vandals who defaced the monuments to victims of the 1914 Ludlow Massacre has grown to $5,000. The United Mine Workers of America is offering most of the money, while the city of Trinidad and Las Animas County have offered $1,000.
Earlier this week, the heads were knocked off two granite figures that symbolize five miners, two women and eleven children who died at a coal camp about 12 miles north of Trinidad.
The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. is sending a representative to gauge the extent of the damage and investigate
possible restoration of the statue.
Trinidad police and the Las Animas County sheriff are investigating.
