An Article 32 hearing is set for Wednesday for sophomore cadet
Douglas Meester. The hearing is the military equivalent of a
pretrial hearing and will determine whether Meester faces a
court-martial.
Meester is the first cadet charged with rape since a sex scandal
broke at the academy earlier this year.
Junior cadet Jason Lewis was charged with sexual assault in a
separate case. He waived his right to an Article 32 hearing, but
military officials held one anyway and are deciding whether to
proceed to a court-martial.
Meester is also charged with indecent assault and providing
alcohol to two cadets in the October 2002 incident.
