Colorado has a nursing shortage. So much so, hospitals can't spare nurses to train those who want to be nurses.

Experts say Colorado will need 17,000 registered nurses by 2020. But, officials expect the state will fall short of that by at least 5,000.

Some experts estimate, more nurses will be leaving the profession than entering it by 2020, which could leave the health care system, nationwide, with a projected shortfall of 800,000 nurses.
