A bolt of lighting can damage or destroy just about any electronic device in your house. Electronics salesmen tell me Colorado is second only to Florida in power surges due to lightning.
And Summer and early Fall are the most common times of year for it.
Lightning struck 34 thousand times in the past 24 hours in Colorado.
Electronics salesmen say power centers can be a good investment in this part of the country.
"What they do is not only give you the surge protection, but it also cleans-up the 'dirty power' that's out there. You've got video noise and audio noise that's out there," said Daniel Yab of Ultimate Electronics.
Power strips can also offer some protection... Depending on the performance rating of the power strip. They cost 30 dollars or more. Power centers can cost 500 dollars or more but can prevent thousands of dollars in damage.
