A tearful goodbye for friends and family of the 244th Engineering Combat Battalion at Fort Carson.
The soldiers of the unit hugged and kissed their loved ones Saturday as they said goodbye to their families and got ready to head overseas. Many of the unit's 600 members are reservists from Weld County.
Despite President Bush's declaration of an end to hostilities, there is rebuilding left to be done. This unit is trained to repair roads, construct hospitals and build bridges.
One soldier, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Jerome has set an alarm on his wristwatch that goes off every day at 4 p.m. His youngest daughter, 8-year-old Laura, also has a watch with an alarm that goes off at the same time.
That way, Jerome says, both know they are thinking about each other at the same time.
