Legislative Session Wrapping Up

Lawmakers head into the final three days of the Legislative session facing auto insurance reform, and a health care package.

They will also face an unusual attempt to redraw the boundaries of the congressional districts. Republican lawmakers acknowledge they have been considering a plan since December to take a second look at the seven districts. They say their goal will be to protect the suburban 7th District of Republican Bob Beauprez. Last week, they pushed to finish most of the major remaining work to free time in case the measure is introduced.

Lawmakers last week finished work on the two biggest tasks facing lawmakers when the session began by passing bills to deal with the worst budget shortfall in 60 years, and methods to deal with the worst drought in state history.
