Volunteers are working to reforest an area scarred by a 12,000 acre wildfire near Glenwood Springs last summer.

About 300 volunteers are planting more than 5,000 trees, shrubs and plants in the burn area Saturday and Sunday.

The Coal Seam fire destroyed 29 homes and came within feet of
several municipal buildings. It was sparked June 8th by an underground coal fire that had been burning since at least 1910.

The wildfire was officially declared extinguished in December.
