Three new suspected cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS, have been reported in Colorado, bring the total number for the state to eleven.

The latest cases include a two women from Denver County and a 73-year-old man from El Paso County. All three became ill after traveling to China.

Doug Benevento is executive director of the Colorado Public Health and Environment Department. He says of the three new cases of the flu-like illness, only the man had to be hospitalized. He is currently being held at Memorial Hospital in the Springs.

Worldwide there have been 4,439 cases and 263 deaths. The disease has prompted a worldwide travel alert for those planning travel to mainland China, Hong Kong and Toronto, Canada. It’s unsure how the virus is spread. And so far, there is no treatment or cure.
