A spring storm moved into Colorado Wednesday, bringing snow, rain and hail.
Colorado Springs saw a mix of rain and snow. Other areas saw mostly snow. In fact, Elbert Schools are closed Thursday because, according to principal David Black, they received about 8 inches of snow.
About 13 vehicles were involved in a pile up near Monument hill on I-25 Wednesday afternoon. The southbound lanes were closed for a while.
A tornado warning was issued after someone spotted a funnel cloud near Denver International Airport. The warning was canceled after about 45 minutes and there were no reports of any twister that had touched down.
Rain pelted the Denver area and residents in the northern suburb of Thornton reported hail the size of quarters. Weld County to the east reported wind gusts of up to 54 miles per hour.
Traffic in the mountains was snarled around noon Wednesday after snow began falling, surprising many truck drivers who had not chained their tires. Tow trucks had to pull the stalled trucks off Interstate 70.
Up to eight inches of snow could fall in the mountains by Thursday.
