A Colorado House committee approved a bill Wednesday that would increase state control over a radioactive waste storage
site in southern Colorado.

The Cotter Corporation is a uranium mill and processing center
near Canon City.

It has applied to accept 470-thousand tons of radioactive soil from a Superfund site in Maywood, New Jersey.

State officials want to oversee the project.
