Camp Shady Brook Fire Recovery

A popular summer camp, damaged in last summer's wildfires, is in need of volunteers to help get ready for the new season. A YMCA volunteer work day will take place on Saturday, April 26th at Camp Shady Brook near Deckers.

The camp will soon host about 1,600 kids for "summer fun." That wasn't the case last year, when the Schoonover Fire forced Camp Shady Brook to close. Nine buildings were destroyed at the camp. Ever since, volunteers have been working to rehabilitate the land. And the March blizzard took a heavy toll on the trees.

"This weekend will really help us clean up some of the downed limbs that were there from that recent snowstorm a couple of weeks ago---just getting it into a position that's safe and exciting for children," says YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region President Merv Bennett.

Volunteers can sign up to help by calling 532-1539 or going online to Camp Shady Brook
