A little girl is fighting for her life after she was shot by a 5-year-old boy.

Crime tape blocked off a section of Colfax Avenue in Pueblo where a little girl was shot in her backyard. Neighbors are shocked.
"They heard the gunshot and everybody came out, running outside,” explained Marion Hernandez.
Police say a 9-year-old boy got a hold of a handgun. He went into the backyard and gave it to a 5-year-old boy, who aimed it at a 3 year-old girl and pulled the trigger. The girl was flown to a hospital in Colorado Springs. Police say the 9-year-old told them he learned how to use a gun from his video games.
The mother of the victim and her boyfriend were both home at the time. Police say Chavez ran from the home. Officers later found him and arrested him. The girl little had surgery on Monday night. She is listed in critical condition.
"It's just a tragedy. It really is. I hope she makes it,” said Hernandez.
Police say the 5 and 9-year-old boys won't face any charges because of their age. Investigators are still deciding if the girl's mother should be charged.
Pueblo police say hiding a gun from your kids somewhere in the house just does not work. It’s best to always lock them up.
11 News looked into the suspect’s background. He previously had a warrant out for his arrest for not showing up to court on an assault charge.
Neighbors say it was the 5-year-old cousin who shot the little girl, but police haven't confirmed their relationship.
