Colorado Lawmakers Considering Selling State Buildings

Colorado lawmakers are considering a proposal to sell off some state buildings and lease them back to help balance the state budget. The proposal follows the realization that lawmakers are still about five million dollars short as they search for ways to cut the state budget.

Democratic lawmakers argue that the state should buy the buildings back as quickly as possible. But it turns out the state has never before had to come up with lease payments for its own buildings.

Lawmakers say the state has to come up with a new plan to raise money because options to sell bonds based on the tobacco settlement are dwindling.
