Saturday will be a special day at the Air Force Academy. A triathlon will be held in honor of a fallen cadet who always inspired others and is still doing so today by the legacy she left behind.

Lindsay Brown was killed in a car crash last December while home on break. She was a member of the Falcon swim team, but she had always dreamed of being a triathlete someday.

"She always wanted to but she was never able to before her death," said her friend Doug Zschoche.

Zschoche says it was on the way to her funeral that he decided he had to do something for his friend.

"We needed to do something to carry on her legacy," he said.

Doug asked the academy if they could hold a triathlon for Lindsay.

"I've know a lot of cadets over the years, to be able to do this much for one that has fallen is pretty incredible," said Major James Thompson.

Thompson didn't have to think twice about being the race director. So for the past several months a group of cadets have spent their free time getting things ready.

"It's almost surreal to think that it's actually almost here. She’s been smiling the entire time,” Zschoche said.

About two hundred people are now registered to race in the first annual Lindsay Brown Benefit Triathlon.

"All of these folks are getting together to honor someone was a collegiate swimmer but who wanted to be a triathlete," Thompson said.

And there's no doubt that on Saturday, Lindsay will be here cheering everyone on.

"If we start to get a little tired, I am just going to keep thinking that it's for her, it's going to make me push myself a little more," said Lindsay’s friend Alex Clift.

All of the money raised from the triathlon will be given to the Rando Fund. The fund helps cadets pay for airfare home in the wake of family tragedies.
