Colorado Springs suspended their active manhunt for a suspect who may be armed and dangerous. That search prompted several schools to lockdown as a precaution for several hours.

The search area was roughly north and west of downtown Colorado Springs. Officers say they believed the suspect, 31-year-old Keith Slocum, was at the Best Western Palmer House at 3010 North Chestnut Street.

According to Colorado Springs Police spokesperson Lt. Skip Arms, police were conducting surveillance on the hotel when Slocum came out. He jumped in a vehicle and may have tried to run over police. One officer did fire a shot at the car as it sped away.

Officers have been looking for Slocum since Monday night, when he led police on a chase in the Manitou Springs area. At that time, they say he was driving a stolen car, which contained stolen property, possible methamphetamine (meth) and a handgun.

Later Monday night, police say Slocum broke into a Manitou Springs house, assaulted the resident, and may have stolen a weapon.
