A Fremont County Jail inmate who escaped from a hospital emergency room Sunday night is back in custody.
Sheriff's deputies apprehended 23-year-old Roger Zaragoza at a Canon City intersection during a traffic stop about 11 a.m. Monday.
Authorities had been conducting surveillance in the area after a resident reported Zaragoza stopped on his porch, asking for a cigarette and saying he was in trouble.
Investigators say Zaragoza freed himself from restraints about 10:15 Sunday night after being taken to a hospital for a possible broken hand.
Zaragoza was arrested in February on attempted first-degree murder and weapons charges.
An investigation into how Zaragoza escaped custody is under way.
