Roads are icy in spots that saw accumulating snow yesterday. Allow yourself plenty of extra time this morning and dress warmly, as wind chills are in the single digits and teens for many. A second disturbance will bring another round of snow showers to the Front Range this afternoon and early evening. While not as heavy as yesterday, some additional light accumulations over the higher terrain will be possible, including Teller and Northern El Paso Counties. Fifty five year old Lonnie Westphal has headed the State Patrol since 1995. He joined the patrol in 1974 as a trooper, and worked his way through the ranks.
Westphal was only the sixth chief in the agency's 68 year history.
He says he's proud that the pay for troopers increased during his time as chief and that a hundred new patrol officers were added.
Still, Westphal says Colorado could use another 160 troopers because of the growth in population.
