Change of Command

The new leader of the Air Force Academy is urging cadets to work together to improve the school and its culture.

Brigadier General Johnny Weida addressed an estimated 4,000 cadets during a change-of-command ceremony Thursday afternoon.

Cadets stood at attention as Academy Superintendent Lieutenant General John Dallager transferred leadership title and duties to Weida from Brigadier General Sylvanus Taco Gilbert.

The new leadership is part of a multi-step overhaul aimed at making the academy safer in the wake of a sexual-assault scandal.

Colonel Debra Gray also attended the ceremony. She's taking over as vice commandant.

Two other new officers including a new superintendent will arrive by the end of next month.
