A 61-year-old grandmother remains in policy custody after allegedly locking her 13-year-old grandson in a kennel for the past three years while she went to work.
Police arrested June Candelario on charges of second-degree kidnapping, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment and child abuse. They arrested her Thursday after receiving a report of child abuse.
They say the Jefferson County detention counselor would lock her grandson in the less than four-by-three-foot kennel each day before heading to work at 4 p-m. She would open the kennel when she returned from work at 3 a-m.
Jim Shires of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says Candelario has been suspended with pay pending the police investigation.
