A grass fire near Eagleview Middle School forces students to evacuate. The fire started around 11 Tuesday morning, and quickly burned ten acres near the middle school. It’s located on vindicator near Rockrimmon.
Eighth graders were launching rockets as part of a science project, but one of them ended up starting the fire. It didn't take long for the fire to spread across ten acres.
Kids tell 11 News “I was scared” and “I could smell the smoke in French class.” What's scary is just how close the fire got to the school…within feet. Lt. Gary Reading with the Springs Fire Dept. said, “These heavy winds caused quite a spread.”
Everyone was forced to evacuate and on stand by to possibly move school over to Woodmen Valley Chapel.
The school did have the proper permits for this science project.
