Nearly 800 soldiers of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment leave Fort Carson today for the Persian Gulf.
Troops from the 5200-member unit helped defeat Iraqi soldiers in the Persian Gulf War in 1991.
About 5,000 members of the unit received their deployment orders Feb. 15 and are waiting to be shipped out.
Reporter John Diedrich and photographer Andy Rogers of the Colorado Springs Gazette are with the troops as embedded journalists.
