City and business leaders in Colorado Springs are celebrating some good employment news after several disappointments.
Progressive Insurance broke ground this morning on a new three-building, 300,000 square-foot campus in the Northgate Corporate Village. The campus should open early next year.
The new facility will nearly double Progressive's current capacity in the area. Company officials say it will also mean about 1,200 new jobs.
Progressive already employs nearly 900 people in sales and customer service call centers. The company added 308 new workers in Colorado Springs last year.
The groundbreaking comes after repeated job reductions in the region. Various companies have cut more than 8,000 jobs in the Colorado Springs area in the past two years.
