Two kids are just released Thursday afternoon from Memorial Hospital after a near drowning accident in Canon City Tuesday evening.
The mother of one of those children has since been arrested and is in the Fremont County Jail. Nina Davis faces charges of child abuse and neglect along with possesssion and use of drugs.
Since Davis allegedly violated probation, she has to serve 20 days behind bars before she can post her $35,000 bail. Her ex-boyfriend, Richard Valdez, is the father of one of the kids who fell in the pool. He says they're good parents and what happened was an accident.
He was out watering the lawn while Davis was taking a shower. But, within a blink of an eye, Valdez heard one of the three kids scream. “That's the scariest thing I ever saw…2 kids floating in water. They were turning blue and I resistated them both," Valdez said.
Since then, Valdez said he feels he's getting a bad rap. "Everyone is saying ‘bad parent, bad parent.’ I ain't met a perfect parent yet."
Police arrested Davis because they say she was the one who was supposed to be watching the kids. Police say she tested positive for methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana. Valdez admits Davis has a drug problem, but says she's a good mom. "It wasn't neglect or abuse, it was just kids being kids."
Valdez says he going to keep the pool and teach his kids how to swim.
