Now that both conventions are over, McCain and Obama will spend the next several months debating and campaigning. So how did the past two weeks help the respective candidates?

Which convention do you think was stronger overall?
RNC
DNC
Undecided

One analyst's, a political science professor at Colorado College thinks the Democrats had the edge, in how smoothly their convention ran, compared to the Republicans, but that being said the Republicans were faced with the unexpected challenge of Hurricane Gustav, which caused Monday's session to be cut short.

"The Democratic convention was near perfect," said CC Professor Bob Loevy.

Loevy says not only did Barack shine, but so did his former rival Hillary Clinton.

"They wanted to unify the party and I think Hillary's speech really accomplished that," Loevy said.

He felt like the Republicans struggled a bit more.

"The second day the purpose of the convention is to deliver John McCain's message, that was completely disturbed by the revelations concerning Republican Vice-president candidate Sarah Palin," Loevy said.

But he says it was also Palin who got things back on track with her speech.

"I really think out of the everything came last night's talk by Sarah Palin," Loevy said.

During McCain’s speech protestors were able to get inside the convention arena which is also something we didn't see at the DNC.

An interesting fact to note, Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin's speech last night had almost as many viewers as Barack Obama's speech last Thursday where the democrats saw record setting numbers.

37-million people tuned in to watch Palin.

Through the use of pathos, logos, and ethos, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s speech at the Republican National Convention prevailed over New York Senator Hilary Clinton’s speech at the Democratic National Convention. For the sake of pathos, Huckabee’s use of anecdotes made him more relatable to his audience; though Senator Clinton used the same techniques to reach the hearts of her listeners, her efforts were not as prevalent as Huckabee’s. Also, Huckabee gained credibility by denouncing the views and standpoints of the opposing speakers at the Democratic National Convention. By noting Senator Barack Obama’s accomplishments as an African American before berating his ideas, it greatly increased his logos. This was very effective because it minimized the risk of Huckabee being called racist. Though Senator Clinton used this technique as well, it was not as effective as Huckabee’s use of it. Huckabee’s increased the ethos of him and the Republican Party by stressing to his audien

LMAO, Independent. You pick some angry, whiner guy who is basically jealous of McCain's getting notation for his time as a POW over him and he spends his time making "bash videos" on Youtube, Give me a break. I'm pretty sure Obama is the only guy I know who voted against his OWN bill (Econimcs Bill). He is going to be proven a financial leech on this country. Everyone forgets about the Bush tax rebates and Stimulus checks they have cashed.

view link on youtube from former fellow pow john mccain on why not to vote for him. this guy graduated from the top of his class at USNA-and knows mccain personally. he was also captured and in the hanoi hilton 2 years prior to mcains arrival and tells about that experience aswell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KjsEs46C70

Why are you dems so ignorant? I just don't get it. How can you vote for Obama? Do some research on this guy and then see if you really want him as president. If you want a communist nation, then go down that path. But, if you want us to get back to where we need to be, vote for McCain. Please, do your research dems.

What is America? America is African American, Caucasion, Hispanic, Asian, Indian and many, many more. Many different peoples from all around the world. Thus, the term 'melting pot" defines us. I am an Independent and I was at Invesco Field. What I saw was many different kinds of people from many different religous backgrounds. I am white and being surrounded by so many different people to me was uplifting. ...afterall this is America. America is not only white and evangelical. People from all colors and backgrounds PLEASE ROCK THE VOTE- GET OUT AND VOTE! And to answer the question the DNC was the stronger of the two. I will admit that the 100,000 balloons at the RNC was pretty impressive balloons don't make a leader.

Hey DP, your post says the RNC had "honest people speaking"?? Really?? A lot of the things several of them said were not true and they said them just because it was "something you wanted to hear!!"

Cannot believe mature adult voters can even take the governor from Alaska seriously....a comment overheard in a restaurant was...there can't be that many stupid people in America.

sarah palin is nice but lacks substanace maybe she should focus on her beautiful chidren and politics when they grown they need her more than america right now

The DNC left a strange smell at Invesco Field.

The DNC was the more critical of the two; since they had to achieve party unity - and it seems that they did. As for convincing voters, I believe the RNC likely edged out the DNC. Not that many would come over from the liberal side; but should have brought in some, heretofore, disaffected conservatives.

Not only did the DNC ROCK DENVER, but EVERY ONE who spoke ROCKED DENVER!! From Michelle, to Biden, to Hilary, to the average citizens to OBAMA....each speach resounded with honesty, energy, hope, sincerity, truth, and guidence. I believe in Obama and everything he stands for. I have a very high respect for Biden, Michelle and Hilary. YES WE CAN!!!!

the dems will win, period end of story, the rebubs are nothing but fake and believe in just white people, as to where the dnc is all about change and making this country the way it should have always been, equilty for each and every one of us..so win obama wins, I will enjoy the looks on the faces of the repubs...

The RNC was as usual; calmer than the DNC, but I must say John McCain got me thinking. I've voted on both sides and I believe John McCain is the better candidate with his record of accomplishments; and his willingness to work with everyone. He has proven himself over and over. With Obama we are taking a long shot at hoping he can make a change and at this time of our country; hopes are not worth the risk; maybe to some but not this voter. With 23 years in the military; I feel it is immature to risk our countries future on a talented orator over a seasoned leader. I'm not happy with either candidate but I must go with my gut. I cannot vote for Obama/Biden.

The RNC was stronger, because they were HONEST people speaking and not telling us what they think we wanted to hear like the Dems.

keep dreaming, if obame were to be elected it would be a sad day. the non workers who ride the system would sure love it if he won.

The dnc did have a stronger look on TV, but the overall message was lost with barakos "UMMMs", "You knows", & lack of straightforward talking. obama has no experience doing anything, yet he wants to lead the U.S. government. No, it's not happening. It boils down to trust- You trust obama- that's your choice. You trust McCain- God Bless You!!! McCain/Palin in 08!!!

The DNC convention was by far stronger. The face of the RNC represents America’s past (over 90% white) while the face of the DNC represents the future; blacks, whites, Hispanics, Chinese, Indians. The RNC nights were all about attacks and even though some attacks came from the democrats, we were able to get specifics as to how they plan to move the country forward. As a white female, it was disturbing to see Palin aggressively attack Obama and belittling his work as a community organizer. Baselessly attacking your opponent’s character is politics of the past and Americans must move forward for our very survival in this changing world. We must show these politicians that the issues are far more important to us in this election.

The DNC was stronger because Obama is going to win.(period) Suck on that Rebubs
