Another wave of soldiers has returned home from a nine-month deployment.
Almost 300 soldiers returned to Fort Carson early Saturday morning after a deployment in Kuwait. The soldiers are among 5,000 soldiers from the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division that have been returning in waves over the last few weeks.
Though there was a delay, pushing their anticipated 3:30 a.m. arrival to 4:30 a.m., once the soldiers were released from formation the extra hour was all but forgotten. The room became filled with hundreds of embracing families.
For many soldiers, they weren't returning home ahead of the holidays, but just in time for milestones too.
"I'm really excited I got to make it home for my daughter's first birthday," Loren Longie told 11 News. "Really excited."
Longie told 11 News that after a 24-hour trip, he was also really looking forward to taking a shower.
"I'm looking forward to taking a shower, getting cleaned up and some quality time with my family," Longie said.
There will be more soldiers arriving from the 1st ABCT over the next few days.
