A pit bull was shot Tuesday by an off-duty Colorado Springs police officer who says he was defending himself against a vicious attack.
Police say the off-duty officer witnessed two dogs, a brindle-colored pit bull and a black Labrador retriever, were showing aggressive behavior toward a woman and her child who walked in a parking lot.
The officer then distracted the dogs attention away from the woman and child and on to himself.
Police say when the dogs began to attack again and that is when the officer drew and fired his pistol one time, striking the pit bull in the head.
Both dogs ceased their attack and ran away.
The Humane Society did respond. Police do not know who the owners of the dogs are.
Witness told police the two dogs had been acting aggressively since Monday night.

You know pit bulls are some of the sweetest dogs I've known. You really can train any dog to be aggressive and people need to realize that donning one type of dog as evil is absolutely ridiculous. Almost similar to generalizing one race of people as violent or something of that sort. In my opinion it's pure ignorance.
why did the cop killed the pitull not the other dog? I agree with Lori, I own a pit terrier, she is the most lovable dog and socializer, like a baby and loves PEOPLE, you Poeple need to get educated and spent time with a pitbull abd read some books where they come from what they are about, other dogs bite and are aggressive but it will NEVER be reported. It is always the Pitull! The cop was over reacting and had some against Pitbulls, he should have killed the other one too, the actions shows he use to kill the Pitbull... WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!
Did ANY of you actually read the story or watch the video? (The video DID state where this happened!) Did any of you get the point that these 2 stray dogs were being aggressive toward a woman and a CHILD? Do any of you have compassion for the human race or are you so self centered that other peoples safety means nothing? Is a dog more important than a child or other person? I know how many children in this neighborhood walk to and from school. I know how many school bus stops are in my neighborhood. I know how many children wait at them. I know just how many times I HAVE called the humane society on strays just because there are so many people, young and old, that walk in my neighborhood. This story is about someones safety just as if they WERE being robbed. I am thankful that the officer was there! What if it were you and your child...would you have wanted him there then? Or is it only you that you want to be safe and the rest don't matter?
