Top Air Force officers pledged Wednesday to restore honor to an Air Force Academy shaken by allegations that female cadets were ostracized or reprimanded for reporting rapes and sexual assaults.

Air Force Secretary James Roche says he believes it is one of the finest institutions in the world but it needs some repairs and that will happen.

Roche announced that four of the academy's top officers would be replaced.

Superintendent Lieutenant General John Dallager will retire as scheduled in June. Major General John W. Rosa, Junior will be appointed as the next Superintendent.

Brig General S. Taco Gilbert III, the commandant of cadets, will be reassigned to the Pentagon. He'll be replaced by Brig. Gen. Johnny A. Weida.

Col. Robert D. Eskridge, the current vice commandant of cadets, will be reassigned. Col. Debra D. Gray will replace Eskridge.

Col. Sue Slavec, 34th Training Group commander, will also be reassigned. She'll be replaced by Col. Clada A. Monteith.

There are also some changes in regulations. Cadet support groups will be created, designed to address sexual assaults.

All medical personnel will receive training to deal with rapes.

Sexual assault victims will be encouraged to report the crime immediately.

False sexual assault accusations will be prosecuted.

Female cadets will be clustered together.

And, the sign on the terrazzo at the academy that reads "Bring me men..." will be taken down and replaced with something deemed more appropriate.
