House Kills Seat Belt Law

The Colorado House Wednesday killed a bill that would've allowed police to pull over and ticket drivers for not wearing a seat belt.

The bill would've also raised the fine from 15 dollars to 25 dollars for an adult, and to 75 dollars when a child was not buckled up.

Lawmakers who oppose the measure say it's already against the law not to wear a seatbelt, and that it's a matter of choice for drivers.

Drivers can only receive tickets if they're pulled over for another offense, then found to be without a seat belt on.
