Vern is sitting where he should be in a jail cell. He is very self-centered and did what he did because he thought he could get away with it and change Jennifer's mind about testifying against him. He did it because it is what he does, hurt people. Vern has been doing this for at least 30 years, I know from experience. He has gotten away with it for a very long time. I don't wish him dead. I believe in a good and forgiving God and I have prayed for him to be kept safe, but more importantly for the rest of us to be kept safe from him. The justice will not come from killing him or him getting treated this way in prison. He has already been treated that way from someone who "loved" him, why would it be worse from a stranger? The justice comes in knowing that he will have to sit in his cell knowing he got caught and he finally has to admit what he has done and what has been done to him! He will never change, but finally he has to admit that he did it! I pray he never hurts anyone again!

Im glad to hear that Jen and her children are ok!!! Now I am appalled at how our citizens are acting. Yes, you all have the right to be mad at Vern, and maybe those opinions on daddy Faus were somewhat right, but hoping this man to die isn't going to take the pain and the scars away! Like Vern's ex-wife said, he had done this years ago!!! An orange jumper is going to look amazing on him!!! We all have a pretty good idea of what happens to people like that in prison...he will get his comeuppance. Now, about Mark...what he and Vern do have in common is making people suffer and hurting those we all care about. I am not ashamed to put my name up there at the top of this comment b/c I like everyone else am entitled to my opinion...but we can be thankful for the fact that this time around a family is safe and another criminal is off the street!! I am proud of our Police Dept and P-SWAT!

I just want to say that I am very proud of my brother Terry Pemberton for what he did for everyone. Not every one can do what he did. The S.W.A.T. was great as were the other Officers. I have always been proud of him and know he can do what every he puts his mind to. Terry is an asset to the Police Department. Please be careful. Thank you

Having been a street cop, detective, correctional supervisor, and coroner for many years, I can totally understand the feelings of betrail expressed by the people of Bent County. I can understand them; but I feel that their anger is misdirected. When a Judge sentences a person, or sets their bail, they are bound by strict guidelines (as enumerated in the Colorado Revised Statutes). Our anger should be directed at our Senators and Representatives who make the laws which Jucges must adhere to.

There is no cure for sexual assault-accept a bullet. You hear so many times of history repeating itself-again and again. Eventually a victim fights back or things don't go right, and a victim ends up dead. Our judicial system needs to be redone so that doesn't happen. Jen-Our prayers go out to you!

You as a community need to get the bad apples out of office. The people that don't have issues around these matters are usually those that don't see anything wrong with this sick, repeated behavior. It's citizens there are paying a very high price. You should reevaluate your office holders. Good Luck!

The family good standing in the community? How? Ron beat his wife up,know for a fact he tried to run down Vern , ya his own own son that he bailed twice,1st sexual assault on a child , 2nd for breaking the restrainig order, of which Ron was driving as Vern can't drive because he is a dead beat dad. Everyone knows Vern is NO angel way back to high school. So Ron own a business, if all of that put in good standing in the couminuty,I say NO. If holding a comminuty in fear that a insane group of people living by a scued view of right and wrong because for some unknown reason, they spit in the eye of law and feel they are above the law.

I live right down the street from this house and I watched all most all of what happened. I believe that the police officers could have done more than what they did. I mean it shouldnt have lasted for 6 hrs. And the Las Animas police should have made sure every one on the block was out of the house. I had a friend walk out her house and did not know anything that was going on. The police were suprised that they forgot a house. The cops here dont know crap. I really hope that the victim and her children are doin ok.

More needs to be done to protect anyone in a situation such as this. This is not the first time vern faus has had a run in with the law for sexual assualt,(and He's not the first in his family to be charged with such a crime) and people like him should not be allowed to walk the streets of any community. Not only does it affect the victims, but there family and close friends as well. Many people in this small community have been affected by what vern faus did, just not Jennifer and her kids. After being charged with sexual molestation on a child back in june he should've never been allowed out of jail, let alone to walk the streets of the same town. Can anything ever be done to protect anyone from this sort of situation. Alot of people in this community, have been scared for life because of what one man has done, and yet blame can not be placed on anyone other than the Judicial system as a whole, LETS MAKE OUT COMMUNITIES AND STREETS SAFE FOR EVERYONE!!

The DA requested a $250,000 bond and the judge set the bond at $500,000. Thank you Judge Schifferl. Let's see if daddy can bail him out now!

I really hope that the "Justice" system realizes that if he gets out again, that the family may not be so lucky to survive. He is obviously a very sick individual that needs to be removed from society by any means. Any one that would hole themselves up for 6 hours is really capable of doing a lot more damage. I thank GOD that the family wasn't hurt worse than they were, and I hope that everyone realizes that the damage incurred is more than just physical, this will be emotionally & mentally devastating to the family that he abused for the rest of their lives. I hope you all will pray that the lord be with them!!!!
