The Pueblo Fire Department has lost one of their own Tuesday, after a two-year battle against cancer.

Twenty-nine-year-old Billy Pine, died early Tuesday morning at his home.

The flags at Pueblo Fire stations have been lowered to half-staff, badges have been covered with black bands, and a moment of silence was held during morning role-call for Pueblo firefighter Billy Pine, who lost his battle to cancer.

He fought the stage four colon cancer for nearly two years.

Billy leaves behind his 27-year-old wife, Janis and their 2-year-old daughter, Sydney.

His family and fellow firefighters have held fundraisers to create a college fund for Sydney.

Sydney was only 6 months old when Billy was diagnosed with cancer.

Billy's helmet will be mounted above the front door at Fire Station One, so that he'll never be forgotten.

Billy Pine is also survived by his parents.

Funeral details will be given on Wednesday.

So young...it is sad, at his expense, that I can now tell my insurance company to give me the colonoscopy I demand. They have continued to tell me that I am to young and not to worry about it. My condolences.
