A healthier and more active community.

That's the goal of city and county leaders in Pueblo as they take to the streets to see how they can change the design of Pueblo.

It's all part of The Steps to a Healthier Pueblo initiative.

Armed with measuring tape, a camera and comfortable shoes, Dan Burden- senior urban designer and national consultant- tours Pueblo with city and county planners, and health specialists to show them how they can make Pueblo a more active community.

Dan Burden has been changing the look of cities for close to 30 years, but the last 12 years he's been focusing on the importance of walkable communities.

"What we find is the cities that are making to most money, the most prosperous cities are designing their cities more for the people than they are for their cars," says Burden.

He says land values go up because more people want to stay and explore what the community has to offer.

The health department has a nearly a half a million dollar Steps to a Healthier Pueblo grant.

All of Dan's ideas for a healthier Pueblo can be heard at Tuesday evening's City Council work session.
