Petty Officer Clayton Bartels graduated from Doherty High School in 1997. His mother, Karen Bartels, says his family misses him
but believes he'll return home soon.
Bartels played football for Doherty High School and is an avid
snowboarder. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 18 years old after enrolling at Pikes Peak Community College. His mother says he hopes to finish college and play football when he returns home.
Bartels has been in almost constant communication with his family, a tight-knit group spread across the Front Range. His mother says she exchanged e-mail messages with him two days ago, and he's called twice.
