Using gondolas to move people horizontally, between villages, restaurants, towns and parking lots, is an idea that is quickly gaining steam. Until now, Colorado resorts have largely used gondolas as uphill transportation for skiers or patrons of mountaintop restaurants.

Glenwood Springs is about to open its first aerial tramway, promising a year round draw for the area's tourist attractions. Copper Mountain is planning a pair of gondolas connecting the resort's outlying parking lots with its bustling pedestrian villages. And Breckenridge is planning to unite its new ski villages at Peak 7 and Peak 8 with the mining town's historic Main Street. Keystone ski area has fostered plans to connect its wetland separated villages with gondolas.
