Dry lightning is to blame for another wildfire in eastern El Paso County. Firefighters from Ellicott and Falcon were able to contain the flames quickly before it destroyed a home just north of Highway 94 and east of Curtis.
The Chatelain family was just waiting for something like this to happen.
They've been hearing about grass fires all summer. This time, it hit a little too close to home.
Carol Chatelain saw the fire racing toward her house after she a heard the sharp sound of a lightning strike. She called her neighbors who grabbed their shovels and headed up the block toward the fire.
When firefighters from Ellicott and Falcon showed up, they were able to contain the close to 30 acre fire, saving Chatelain's home.
The flames came within 100 yards of Chatelain's front door.
