State lawmaker Don Marostica, (R) Loveland, is proposing a bill which would switch state employees to four-day work weeks.
That concept has brought many positive and negative reactions.
While supporters of the idea feel it would save employees and companies a lot of money, opponents feel it would present too many challenges.
Colorado is one of a few states looking into the idea of a 4-day work week for its employees.
Loveland State rep Don Marostica says four 10-hour days would reduce traffic, cut pollution and save energy in the state's 27-hundred buildings.
"if we could cut the heat down for one day and the air conditioning, its got to be a lot of savings for the state, and that's why I came up with the idea," says Marostica.
One Colorado company has already adopted this idea.
The Coffee Holding Company in La Junta started their 4-day work schedule two weeks ago.
And so far, they say, the new schedule has been working wonders on their wallets.
"Across the board we save a lot of money by doing this," says Rick Long, Coffee Holding Company.
"With the rising gas prices, it helps out with the employees that have to travel," says Teo Alvidrez, Coffee Holding Company.
Besides saving gas money, employees here say the 10-hour days allow them to get more work done.
"When you have those extra couple hours to finish, you get what you need to get done so you can start a new order," says Steven Herrera, Coffee Holding Company.
Another benefit: the three-day weekend.
"We're able to spend more time with our families, too, which I notice because I got young children and it helps a lot," says Long.
The bill proposing the four-day work week wont be introduced until early next year, but the employees at Coffee Holding Company say they plan to keep it up, since its working for them.
Representative Don Marostica estimates the plan would save the state about 3 to 5 million dollars a year.

I hope that they do start a four-day work week. That would make things so much easier. People would spend less on gas (which might make the prices go down with supply and demand and all) and they would be able to spend more time with their family. I, for one, would love to be able to spend more time with my husband and I know he feels the same. I would work for kids in school too. I was reading in the Reader's Digest that they started doing that in a community college in Florida and how the grades were improving as a whole. It cuts the vacation time to a week or two per term, but they said it was worth it and want to do it again.

This actually works very well and has been provided as an option to my companies employees. The company is still open 5 days a week, but by staggering some employees to work Mon - Thu and others Tue - Fri there has been no noticeable negative effect on production. In fact, many people have actually increased their production during the four days they do work as they are able to complete projects completely rather than stop in the middle and restart the next morning.
