A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. Several inches of accumulation will be possible in areas where these bands develop. For more information click the ‘Weather’ tab...
Investigators, at this time, have no time line for how long it will take to determine what caused the early morning fire in the Village Seven neighborhood.
The fire broke out around 2:00am Friday just off North Carefree. There were four people were in the house when the fire started. The three children, 11 year old J.J., six year old Sophie and three year old Sierra all died in the fire, but their father, 32 year old Tim Nicholls managed to escape. The childrens' mother was not home at the time.
The father is recovering at University Hospital's burn center in Denver.
Investigators from the CBI have joined the Springs Fire Department to determine a cause. They say whenever there is a deadly fire, they have to look at it from every angle before naming a definite cause. The only thing investigators can confirm, is that the fire started somewhere in the living room.
Some materials from the house have been sent off to the CBI's lab for testing. It may take up to two weeks for the results to come back on those materials.
