When the Neoplan Bus Plant in Lamar closed its doors around Christmas time last year, it left 360 residents without a job. In a town of only a little more than 8,000 people like Lamar, a layoff that size has a big impact.
Former employees were given two weeks severance and most will receive six months of unemployment. However, that is coming to an end very soon.
The community is now stepping up to help out those who have been put out of work and are struggling to keep up with bills.
A fundraiser will be held on March 25th at the Lamar Community Building with all proceeds going to help those in need.
There will be a silent auction consisting of numerous professional autographed sports memorabilia, fun and games for all ages, music performed by local bands, as well as Cream of Country from Denver. The money raised will be put in an account at a local bank, where former Neoplan workers can request cash assistance for bills, mortgages and rents, and essential necessities.
