Democratic Senator Deanna Hanna of Lakewood says she'll resign from her seat March 22nd, amid allegations she violated ethics rules by demanding a campaign contribution from a real estate group.
Hanna has been under fire since news reports surfaced she asked the Colorado Association of Realtors for $1,400, to make amends for the group backing her opponent in a 2004 election.
Hanna told colleagues today "While it is with personal sadness that I have reached my decision, I cannot let my personal feelings distract from the important work to be accomplished."
Hanna apologized for her actions last week, but Senate Minority Leader Andy McElhany of Colorado Springs, and the public-interest lobbying group Colorado Common Cause, both said that wasn't enough -- and called for her resignation.
