Douglas County Wildfire

A homeowner is being treated for burns to his hands and face after his home caught fire and sparked a large blaze south of Franktown.

Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Ron Hanavan says the fire burned in unincorporated Franktown, near the Douglas-El Paso county line.

Authorities say the homeowner reported his porch on fire around nine a-m. Flames later engulfed the home and dry grass nearby.

Officials say the home is a total loss.

The blaze was estimated at 45- to 50-acres, but fire officials later downgraded that to 30 acres. Wind gusts of up to 40 miles-per-hour fanned the flames through grass and standing timber.

Reverse 9-1-1 calls were made to residents within a three-mile radius of the area to prepare for a possible evacuation.

Crews from Jefferson and El Paso counties are on the scene.
