A storm system will begin to impact Southern Colorado by late this morning. Mountain locations will simply see snow, but lower elevations will see rain eventually change to snow by later this afternoon. Locations higher in elevation will see the heaviest snow, due to colder temperatures. So then, Teller County, far northwest El Paso County, and the Wet & Sangre de Cristo Mountains will likely see several inches of wet snow. The major cities will see far less snow and the storm will exit toward early Saturday morning.
Residents of the Garden Park Villa retirement community in Canon City are still out of their homes, after a fire on the first floor of the complex ignited Wednesday afternoon.
The complex is for low income seniors. About 50 seniors live in the apartments. According to the manager of the complex, most of the residents will be able to get back into their homes Friday or Saturday.
"The damage was contained to one unit, a one bedroom apartment,” said Manager Phil Heil, “There's smoke damage in that immediate area."
The residents who live in that immediate area will probably be out for another week according to Heil.
Most people who were evacuated are staying with family, while the Red Cross is paying for 19 seniors to stay in a hotel, according to Heil.
