A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. Several inches of accumulation will be possible in areas where these bands develop. For more information click the ‘Weather’ tab...
A 43-year-old Colorado Springs man died after skiing into a tree at the Breckenridge Ski Resort today.
Officials say Air Force reservist Maj. Stephan K. Kajah was skiing on an intermediate trail with friends when the accident occurred at around 11-45 a-m.
In a statement by Summit County Corner Joanne Richardson, the man turned too wide and collided into a tree.
The man was pronounced dead at Breckenridge Medical Center.
Richardson says the preliminary cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma to the chest.
Ski resort spokeswoman Nicky DeFord says the man wasn't wearing a helmet, but it's unclear whether that would have made a difference.
DeFord says the resort will not release any details of the incident.
