Amendment 23 Rally

About 3,000 Colorado teachers, students and parents stood in a wind chill of three below zero today to protest a legislative proposal to overrule voters and cut education funding.

Amendment 23 mandates that funding for public schools increases
by the rate of inflation plus 1% until 2010. Lawmakers are
considering taking $47 million from that fund to help deal with the worst budget crisis in nearly 60 years.

Attorney General Ken Salazar says he believes taking the money would be legal.

The rally goers held bright pink and orange signs reading "fund
our future", chanted, " don't mess with Amendment 23", and marched from Civic Center Park to the Capitol, stopping traffic on Broadway in both directions.
