More Troops Return to Ft. Carson

About 300 Fort Carson soldiers are back home following a year-long assignment in Iraq. Members of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the 59th Military Police Company arrived to a warm welcome at the mountain post Sunday night.

The 3rd A-C-R troops worked to drive out insurgents across the country including along the Syrian border.

The 59th MP's took charge of establishing a half-dozen police stations and trained more than 15 thousand Iraqi officers.

The troops say they're thrilled to be home.

"This is the first time my mother and father have been able to see me step off a plane from deployment. I've deployed ten times. This is the first time she's been able to see it. I got my brother here who made Staff Sergeant in the medics in four years...he's here to see me. I'm just ecstatic," said Staff Sergeant Phillip Burnard.

The soldiers are among thousands coming home to Ft. Carson over the next few weeks.
