Updated: 05/14/2013 - I'm still focused on meeting my goal of doing a pull-up. And I'm almost there! But I'm always getting this question:
A Colorado Springs-based Christian ministry organization is urging a financial boycott of Big Brothers - Big Sisters. Focus on the Family is calling on United Way donors to withhold contributions from the B.B.B.S.
The ministry's vice president says that's because the group allows gay people to mentor children. Focus on the Family's Bill Maier claims Big Brothers - Big Sisters is forcing chapters to accept gay mentors. But a spokeswoman for B.B.B.S. says it simply has a nondiscrimination policy.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America told its 500 affiliates last summer that they could not exclude adult mentors because of race, religion or sexual orientation. United Way and Big Brothers - Big Sisters officials say no donors have rescinded gifts because of Focus' efforts.
