The Colorado State Patrol says a FedEx semi truck and a Toyota were both heading southbound. Troopers say the car drifted and collided into the truck, forcing them both off the road. The FedEx driver, Edward Orin died. State Patrol says the three people in the car miraculously survived.
State Patrol suspects the driver of the Toyota, Myra Fisher, fell asleep at the wheel.
About 1,000 packages from the truck, which were headed to Pueblo and Alamosa, were thrown on the side of the highway. Many of the packages were loaded onto another truck for delivery. FedEx says the damaged packages will be notified of the delay.
This accident happens just as a recent study names Colorado as sixth in the nation for fatalities from drowsy driving.
