Veterans for Congress

An unprecedented number of former soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines are running for Congress this year.

About 40 forty of the veterans are Republicans and 55 are Democrats.

They believe their military experience could give them the credibility to criticize the war without being dismissed by the Bush administration.

Democrat Jay Fawcett was in the Air Force for 20 years and received a Bronze star during the 1991 Gulf War.

He's decided to run for Congress, against Republican Representative Joel Hefley in Colorado Springs,

because he says he's disgusted with the way American troops were being used in Iraq.

Fawcett says the Bush administration has failed to clearly state its goals and an exit strategy for the war in Iraq.

But he also says a pullout now would be a mistake.
