Odor Investigation Uncovers Animal Carcass

A pungent stench from a semitrailer that was pulled over near Fort Collins turned out to be from an animal, not a human.

Trooper Darrel Waggener originally stopped the semitrailer Wednesday over fears the load was unstable. The truck was hauling junk vehicles.

Waggener summoned a cadaver dog after the stench caught his attention.

After obtaining a search warrant, authorities found a freezer containing a sawed up horse or cow mixed in with the load of vehicles from Pringle, South Dakota.

Troopers say the animal had been cut into pieces, and a hand saw was still in the freezer.

Twenty-seven-year-old driver Chad Sims of Eaton was arrested on an unrelated warrant and was released.
